Strong Second Half Leads Eagles Over Caldwell

Post Gains Sole Possession of Second Place in CACC North

CALDWELL, N.J. – Behind an 11-0 run midway through the second half, the Post University men's basketball team defeated Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) rival Caldwell on the road 67-54 on Wednesday night. The Eagles improve to 5-2 in conference play this year and move into second place in the CACC North Division.

The Eagles started slow as they turned the ball over four times early and the Cougars built a 12-2 lead. Post cut into the lead with six straight points and a three-pointer by junior Brandt Voiles (Byron, Ill.) brought the Eagles within three at 14-11 with 7:48 remaining in the first.

Junior David Seymour (Amityville, N.Y.) made two straight baskets for Post. After a miss by the Cougars, freshman Tyler Desrosiers (Agawam, Mass.) hit from distance to give the Eagles their first lead of the night at 18-16 with 5:12 left. Caldwell pulled back in front and led 24-23 at the half.

The teams traded baskets early in the second half until a three-point play by freshman Matt Mareno (San Francisco, Calif.) gave the Post the lead for good with 13:47 remaining in the game. Mareno scored 15 of his game-high 19 points in the second half.

Seymour hit a three of a dish from senior Nardie Bogues (Baltimore, Md.) to spark an 11-0 run for Post that put the game away. Bogues, who finished with 11 points, put the Eagles in front by double digits for the first time with a layup with 8:39 left after he made a steal on the other end. Post led by as many as 15 points before it was all over.

Freshman Travis Flagg (Queens, N.Y.) scored nine of his 13 points in the final four minutes to help the Eagles maintain the lead. Mareno added six rebounds, three steals, and three blocks. Post shot 57.7 percent from the field in the second half. The Eagles bench outscored Caldwell 27-6.

Post returns to the Drubner Center on Tuesday, Jan. 13 against Concordia. The Eagles defeated the Clippers 81-65 earlier this year. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
