Eagles Grab First Place With 85-70 Victory Over Concordia

Seymour Scores 18, Grabs Five Boards In Victory

WATERBURY, Conn. – Junior David Seymour (Amityville, N.Y.) scored a season-best 18 points off the bench to lead the Post University men's basketball team to an 85-70 victory over Concordia in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action at the Drubner Center on Tuesday night. The Eagles improve to 7-7 overall and 6-2 in conference play and take sole possession of first place in the CACC North Division.

Post led for almost the entire game and forced two early turnovers to build an 11-6 lead to start the game. The Clippers came back to tie the score and take their only lead of the game at 18-16 with 11:58 left in the first half after five straight points by Peter Aguilar.

The lead did not last long as freshman Travis Flagg (Queens, N.Y.) nailed a three next time down the floor to spark a 13-0 run by the Eagles. Freshman Matt Mareno (San Francisco, Calif.) found classmate Tyler Desrosiers under the basket for an easy layup to put Post in front 29-18 with 7:01 remaining in the first.

Desrosiers caught fire from behind the arc midway through the half, hitting from distance on three straight Post possessions to give the Eagles their largest lead of the half at 40-27 with 3:31 left. He made 4-of-6 three-pointers on the night and finished with 16 points. Concordia cut the deficit to four late in the half and Post took a 45-38 advantage into the break.

The Eagles hit four of their first five shots to begin the second half, building a 55-42 lead with 17:05 left. Senior Nardie Bogues (Baltimore, Md.) give Post its biggest lead of the game at 63-46 with a three-pointer with 15:04 left. Bogues scored all 17 of his points in the second half. Post led by double-digits the rest of the way.

Seymour added five rebounds and three steals in the victory. The Post bench held a 50-16 scoring edge. The Eagles shot 55.6 percent from distance, their second-best effort of the season. Aguilar led all scorers with 23 points.

Post returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 17 at Nyack. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
