Eagles Unable To Overcome Early Deficit In Loss To Nyack

Howze Ties Career-High With 13 Points In Loss

NYACK, N.Y. – The Post University men's basketball team saw its three-game win streak snapped on Saturday afternoon with a 74-64 loss at Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) foe Nyack. The Eagles are now 7-8 overall and 6-3 in conference play.

Junior Brandt Voiles (Byron, Ill.) hit a three-pointer on the Eagles first possession of the game, but Post went cold from there. Nyack exploded out to an 18-3 lead behind Khalid Samuels and Nick Moore who combined for 17 points early. Junior Shannon McCready (Melbourne, Australia) ended the run with a free-throw with 11:04 left in the first half.

The Warriors extended their advantage to 25-7 with about eight minutes until halftime. Post began to chip away at the lead by forcing turnovers and went on a 12-2 run and a three by freshman Travis Flagg (Queens, N.Y.) cut the deficit to single-digits at 27-19 with 3:42 remaining. The Eagles trailed 32-21 at halftime.

For the second straight game senior Nardie Bogues (Baltimore, Md.) scored all of his points in the second half and he finished with 12 on the day. Bogues got the Post scoring started in the period with a three, cutting the lead to eight points, but the Eagles would never get closer.

Freshman Malik Howze (Detroit, Mich.) led Post with 13 points on the day. He was 3-for-4 from distance and had four steals. The Eagles finished with a season-high 15 steals in the loss. Post forced 17 turnovers, which led to 24 points. Freshman Matt Mareno (San Francisco, Calif.) has a team-high seven rebounds.

The Eagles return to action on Wednesday, January 21 as they visit Felician. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
