Post Comeback Falls Short Against Goldey-Beacom

Mareno Records Fifth Double-Double

WILMINGTON, Del. – Down four points with 23 seconds left, freshman Jah'sheme Ringgold (Easton, Md.) converted a three-point play to bring Post within one point, but his late jumper fell short as the Post University men's basketball team was defeated by Goldey-Beacom 56-55 on Saturday afternoon. Ringgold finished with nine points off the bench for the Eagles.

Post trailed by as many as 12 points in the second half and was down 49-37 with just under nine minutes to play. Senior Nardie Bogues (Baltimore, Md.) hit a three with 8:46 left to spark a 12-3 run by the Eagles to bring them back into the game. Ringgold scored five points during the run and freshman Matt Mareno hit two free-throws to cut the deficit to 52-49 with 4:30 left. Mareno led Post with 14 points and 11 boards on the day.

Goldey-Beacom would extend its advantage back to seven points before Post's late comeback.

Early on the teams traded baskets but Post could never gain control and trailed from start to finish. Junior Brandt Voiles (Byron, Ill.) nailed three-pointer off a pass from Mareno with 14:06 left in the first half to tie the score 11-11.

Ringgold missed a jumper with 10:59 remaining in the first, but junior Shannon McCready (Melbourne, Australia) grabbed the offensive board and laid it in to make the score 18-15. Goldey-Beacom scored seven straight points from there to jump in front by double-digits.

Post closed the deficit to seven points 1:43 left after freshman Tyler Desrosiers (Agawam, Mass.) hit a jumper after a steal by junior David Seymour (Amityville, N.Y.). The Lightning took a 34-25 lead into the break.

The Eagles recorded their second-worst shooting performance of the season as they shot just 35.0 percent from the field and 16.0 percent from distance, but Post did hold a 16-7 advantage in bench scoring. Freshman Joseph Lockwood (London, England) finished with 12 points, six rebounds, and a season-high three steals.

Post looks to get back on track on Wednesday, Feb. 4 as it hosts Nyack. Tip-off at Drubner is set for 7:30 p.m.
