Season-Best Shooting Performance Leads Eagles Over USciences

Bogues Scores 15 Points, Grabs Five Rebounds In Victory

WATERBURY, Conn. – Behind a season-best 52.1 shooting percentage from the field, the Post University men's basketball team defeated USciences 73-67 at the Drubner Center on a snowy Saturday afternoon. The Eagles eighth straight victory over the Devils improves their record to 5-7 overall and 4-2 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play.

After finding itself down seven points midway through the second half, Post used a 10-2 run to pull in front 55-54 with 8:36 left. Freshman Matt Mareno (San Francisco, Calif.) hit senior Nardie Bogues (Baltimore, Md.) for a three and after a turnover sophomore Jah'sheme Ringgold (Easton, Md.) hit a layup in traffic to give Post the lead.

USciences took the lead back next time down the floor. Mareno missed a shot from 15-feet out, grabbed his own rebound and laid it in and was fouled. He made the free-throw to give the Eagles a 58-56 lead which they would never lose. Post continued to extend its lead and a three-pointer by junior Brandt Voiles (Byron, Ill.) with 1:43 left put the Eagles in front 69-60, their largest advantage of the day.

The Devils would not go away as they scored seven straight to draw within two with under a minute remaining. Bogues, who finished with 15 points and five rebounds, went 4-for-4 from the line down the stretch to secure the win.

Both teams shot well early on, but USciences pulling in front early as it hit six of its first seven shot to take a 14-7 lead at the 15:33 mark of the first. Freshmen Joseph Lockwood (London, England) and Malik Howze (Detroit, Mich.) combined for 10 points as part of a 17-2 run to help Post pull ahead 26-18.

Garret Kerr, the nation's second-leading rebounder, was held without a board in the first half as the Eagles took a 37-34 advantage into the break.

USciences scored the first 11 points of the second half before Post was able to take control.

Howze added 13 points and three assists for the Eagles. Junior David Seymour (Amityville, N.Y.) and Ringgold each finished in double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

The Eagles held a huge advantage on three-pointers making nine as compared to just one; and free throws, making 14-of-16 as the Devils managed to go just 2-for-3.

Post returns to action on Wednesday, Jan. 7 on the road against Caldwell. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.
