Eagles Edged By Dominican 91-85

Bogues Scores 21 Points In Loss

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University men's basketball team was defeated by Dominican 91-85 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action at the Drubner Center on Wednesday night. Senior Nardie Bogues (Baltimore, Md.) dropped 21 points and dished out six assists for the Eagles in the loss.

Dominican's Gerrel Irvin hit a layup off a Post turnover with 12:56 remaining to give the visitors their largest lead of the night at 61-49. Junior Shannon McCready (Melbourne, Australia) grabbed two offensive boards and then hit two free throws on the Eagles next possession to spark at 10-0 run.

Freshman Malik Howze (Detroit, Michigan) and junior David Seymour (Amityville, N.Y.) each hit from distance to cut the deficit to single-digits. McCready later found freshman Tyler Desrosiers (Agawam, Mass.) for a three with 9:11 left to bring the Eagles as close as they would get at 63-62

The Chargers would once against extend their lead to double-digits with 2:52 but Post wouldn't go quietly. Desrosiers hit from distance on back-to-back possessions cutting the deficit to four. After a turnover by Dominican, Desrosiers was fouled shooting a three and made two free throws to make the score 81-79 with 1:43 left. Dominican went 8-for-10 from the line down the stretch to close out the game.

The first half was much of the same as each time the Chargers looked like they were going to pull away, Post fought hard to close the gap. Dominican held a 24-13 lead midway through the half before a 9-1 run by the Eagles. Freshman Matt Mareno had six points during the stretch including a jumper to cut the lead to 25-22 with 8:11 left in the first.

Dominican led by as many as nine before the half was over, but Bogues hit a deep three as time expired to close the cap to 47-41 at the break.

Desrosiers was 4-for-5 from long range and scored 17 points in 15 minutes off the bench. Seymour added 16 points and seven rebounds. Post committed just eight turnovers on the night, its second-best total of the season.

Post looks to rebound on Saturday as its visits Goldey-Beacom in a cross-division CACC matchup. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m.
