Eagles Edge Holy Family in Top-Seeded Showdown

Post Defeats Holy Family 68-65

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University men's basketball team earned its eighth Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) win against Holy Family on Sunday, Jan. 25 at the Drubner Center by a score of 68-65.

Senior Nardie Bogues (Baltimore, Md.) led the way with 22 points, including three triples, and five assists. First-year Jah'sheme Ringgold (Easton, Md.) added 19 points and was nine of 12 from the field. First-year Matt Mareno (San Francisco, Calif.) dropped 14 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the win.

The atmosphere in the Drubner Center was electric from the start. Mareno landed a posturizing and-one dunk early in the first-half to even the score at seven a piece. The action was back and forth, until the Eagles' back-court of Bogues and Ringgold took over and penetrated the Tiger defense to land a series of floaters in the paint to give the Eagles a seven-point advantage 37-30 going into half-time.

Post came out with the same intensity in the second-half and climbed out to a 10 point lead. The Tigers managed to close the gap to 51-50 with 10 minutes remaining but the Eagles continued to play their brand of basketball, grinding for loose balls and finding the open man. First-year Joseph Lockwood (London, England) finished a fast-break layup for the traditional three-point play to give the Eagles a 66-61 lead with three minutes remaining. The Tigers answered with a bucket of their own but the Eagles managed the clock well and endured the 68-65 victory. Post shot 44.8 percent from the field in the second half, and 33.3 from behind the arch
.
Post improves to 8-3 in CACC play, 9-8 overall, and remains the top-seed in the North Division. Holy Family stands at 8-3 in CACC play, and 14-6 overall.
The Eagles are back in action on Wednesday, Jan. 28 as they take on the Chargers of Dominican College in another CACC matchup at the Drubner Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
