Multi-Goal Games By Kamara and Martins Lead Post Over Caldwell

Kamara and Diarra Score First Goals of Season

WATERBURY, Conn. – Juniors Mamadee Kamara (Monrovia, Liberia) and Tiago Martins (Porto, Portugal) each scored twice as the Post University men's soccer team picked up a key Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory 5-1 over Caldwell on Tuesday afternoon.

"It was good to get a win and get the three points in the CACC that we crucially need. We played well, because of bad results we forget that we were tied 2-2 with the number one team in the country with seven minutes left," said head coach Ted Haley.

The Eagles controlled the game right out of the gate outshooting the Cougars 6-0 early. Kamara put Post on the board in the 20th minute off a shot from just outside the box. Less than a minute later junior Gustavo Ferreira (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) fed a pass to Kamara though the defense that he booted home to put the Eagles in front 2-0.

Post continued its dominating play throughout the rest of the half as it outshot Caldwell 15-2 in the period, including a 9-1 advantage on goal.

The Cougars turned the ball over in the 46th minute and Kamara fed Martins to put Post in front 3-0. Martins added another goal in the 60th minute off a cross from junior Jacob Butler-Bowden (Adelaide, Australia).

Caldwell broke up the shutout in the 81st minute as Kyle Felton scored on a penalty kick. Junior Saamir Diarra (Mali) scored his first goal of the season late off a pass from freshman Nicholas Strecker (Uncasville, Conn.).

Overall the Eagles held a 22-6 advantage in shots and 13-4 on goal. Martins paced Post with four shots. Sophomore Jon Hanlon (Centereach, N.Y.) earned his second victory in goal with three saves.

"With our last few losses we lost confidence in ourselves. With a big game Friday hopefully we can get better and continue to get the results we need. I'm very proud the guys stepped up in this stressful situation," added Haley.

The Eagles look to stay on track as they host Wilmington on Friday, Oct. 3 at 3 p.m.
