Men’s Soccer Drops Home Contest With Dominican, 2-0

Martins Leads Post With Five Shots

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University men's soccer team was defeated at home by Dominican 2-0 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game on Wednesday afternoon. The Eagles fall to 2-4 overall and 1-3 in conference play on the year.

"We aren't doing enough things right to be able to beat anyone strong opponents like this right now. It's going to take some practice and better communication on our part to get to where we need to be heading into the heart of our conference schedule," said head coach Ted Haley.

The Chargers got on the board in the 15th minute after goalkeeper sophomore Serigne Baba Gaye (Dakar, Senegal) came out of the net to play the defender and Matheus Sousa booted it past him for a goal. Post had a few chances in the period, its best on a shot by junior Tiago Martins (Porto, Portugal) that just missed the goal.

Dominican added its second score in the 61st minute on a counter attack after a corner by Post. Mark Grant recorded his second assist by finding Luis DelPezo on the right side of the net for a score.

The Eagles had a few more chances down the stretch, with under two minutes left freshman Dany Gomes (Sau Nicolau, Cape Verde) took two shots on set pieces just outside the box that nearly beat the keeper.

Post was narrowly outshot 12-11 on the day, but did hold the advantage in shots on goal at 6-5.

The Eagles will look to rebound as they visit Holy Family on Saturday, Sept. 27. Game time is set for 2:30 p.m.
