Post Suffers Loss to AIC 0-3

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Post University women's volleyball team suffered a loss to American International College Tuesday, Sept. 23 by a score of 0-3. The set scores were: 23-25, 23-25, 23-25.

Sophomore Skylar German (Kansas City, Mo.) led all scorers in the match with 11 kills and a season high four blocks. Junior Mariah Morris (Vilseck, Germany) played a significant role offensively with six kills and a block, as Sophomores Morgan Griffin (Plainfield, Conn.) and Kerrin Kallmann (Lake Grove, N.Y.) each added five kills of their own. Julia Slyaktina (Moscow, Russia) quarterbacked the team with 28 assists and Janiellee Alvarez (Norwich, Conn.) absorbed the Yellow Jacket attack tallying 16 digs on the night.

The first set gave the audience a taste of how the proceeding sets would play out. There were five lead changes in the set. Both squads sprinkled in four point runs but neither team letting the other build a comfortable lead. With a pair of service aces compliments of German, the Eagles held a 20-17 lead but couldn't hang on. The Yellow Jackets landed eight of the last 11 points scored. AIC went on to take the first set 25-23.

The Eagles led for the majority of the second set but AIC evened the score at 18 apiece. Post was unable to capitalize on timely kills and extend the set as the Yellow Jackets took a 2-0 lead winning the set 25-23.

The first half of the third set was all Post as the Eagles strung together a series of three point runs and held the opposition to a scattered six points to hold a 13-6 lead. Again, AIC played catch up to even the score 22-22. The Yellow Jackets found a way to make it click down the latter stages of the set to win by another two point margin 25-23. The end result doesn't tell the story of the effort displayed on the court by Post. It is tough to imagine the Eagles won't pick up more wins down the stretch if they maintain the same play intensity.

Post dropped their tenth match of the season to stand at 5-5 on the season, 1-1 in CACC play. With the win, AIC moves to 4-10 overall.

The action continues Friday, Sept. 26 as the Eagles travel to North Easton, Mass. to take on Stonehill College in a non-conference matchup. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
