Rahmi Roundtree (Cheshire, Conn.) with 40 seconds remaining in the first half to put the Post University sprint football team ahead 12-3 in its opener against Army on Saturday at LaMoy Field. Army used a strong second half to defeat the Eagles 31-18.

Post got off to a very quick start as senior
Dashawn Wingate (Naugatuck, Conn.) took the Eagles' first play from scrimmage 79 yards for a touchdown. After forcing the Black Knights to punt their next time out, the Eagles recovered a fumble on their own 20 yard line to end a promising Army drive. The Eagles were unable to convert the turnover into any points.

Late in the first, a late hit penalty gave Army great field possession to begin its drive. J.J. Wartski hit Tucker Van Dyke for 45 yards on the first play to bring the ball down to the Post nine yard line. Tough defense by the Eagles forced a field-goal attempt for 21-yards out that was missed by Warren Kay.

Army got on the board with a field goal in its first possession of the second quarter as it trailed 6-3. Neither team could get the offense going in the second until the Volpe pass to Roundtree in the final minute. The Eagles headed into the break ahead 12-3.

Post looked to maintain momentum on the first Army drive of the half as it forced a three and out. On the ensuing punt, junior
Jay'Len Mahan (Waterbury, Conn.) mishandled the ball and the Black Knights recovered deep in Post territory. Three plays later Wartski found Zachary Woods for a four-yard touchdown that cut the deficit to 12-10. Army took the lead for good with a touchdown on its next possession.

The Eagles seemed to gain some momentum back after recovering an Army fumble on a punt return, but two plays later Wingate lost the ball and the Black Knights recovered. Wartski would find Ty Galyean for his third touchdown pass with 3:05 remaining in the third as Army led 24-12.

Volpe found Mahan early in the fourth for his second touchdown of the day setup by a 40-yard punt return by Mahan, but the Eagles were unsuccessful on a two-point attempt and trailed 24-18. Volpe finished with 139 yards through the air.

Marqus Burrell capped and 11-play drive with an eight-yard score for the final margin with 10:36 left in the fourth. Burrell finished with 128 yards on the ground.

Junior
Anthony Jamele (Terryville, Conn.) led the Post defense with 9.5 tackles and one sack. The Eagles were outgained 378 yards to 259 yards. Mahan amassed a game-high 174 all-purpose yards with 107 return, 55 receiving, and 12 rushing yards.

Post is back in action in it first road challenge next week as it visits Princeton on Friday, Sept. 26. Kickoff at Palmer Field in Princeton, N.J. is set for 7 p.m.
