Waterbury, Conn. – The Post University sprint football team dropped a tough 13-9 game to St. Thomas Aquinas in a Collegiate Sprint Football League (CSFL) game on Saturday afternoon at LaMoy Field.
Post took an early 2-0 lead in the first quarter as Hansley Dalembert tackled Matthew Ehret in the endzone for a safety with 6:16 left.
The Spartans would take a 6-2 lead on a 12-yard TD run from Kiel McKenzie. They failed the two-point conversion after Jalen McPhaul intercepted the ball in the endzone.
The Eagles offense would get on the board in the second quarter as Jake Butler scored on a 3-yard run. Earlier on the drive Butler had a 36 yard catch from quarterback Nick D'Elia on third down to prolong the drive.
However, in the third, the Spartans would score with 44 seconds left, as Mahki Matthews caught a crossing rout and scampered 44 yards for a touchdown. Nobody would score in the fourth.
D'Elia finished the day 18-for-30 with 129 yards. Butler had 40 yards receiving on three catches. Dustin Flowers had two catches for 36 yards.
Dalembert led the Eagles with 12 tackles and two sacks.
