Eagles Get Back On Track Against Goldey-Beacom

Post Snaps Three-Game Losing Streak With 5-1 Win

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University men's soccer team halted its longest losing streak in five years with a 5-1 victory over Goldey-Beacom on Saturday afternoon at Municipal Stadium. The Eagles improve to 2-3 overall and 1-2 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play.

Senior Henry Ipina (Danbury, Conn.) broke through for Post in the 13th minute off a rebound shot by junior Raphael Moura (Danbury, Conn.). In the 30th minute, Moura put Post in front 2-0 on a penalty kick.

The Eagles continued to get chances throughout the first half. Junior Francisco Sastre (Sao Paolo, Brazil) bent a corner kick in the 37th minute and senior Mamadou Balde (Conakry, Guniea) put it home to give Post a 3-0 lead at the break.

Goldey-Beacom came out firing to begin the second half, outshooting Post 5-2 early in the period. Luis Ristow put the Lightning on the board in the 71st minute to cut the deficit to 3-1.

The Post offense proved to be too much as junior Gustavo Ferreira (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) and sophomore Jason Goja (Aveiro, Portugal) each scored down the stretch.

The Eagles outshot the Lightning 14-11 on the day, including 8-5 on goal. Ipina led Post with three shots.

Post will look to keep the momentum going as it hosts Dominican on Wednesday, Sept. 24 at LaMoy Field. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
