BLOOMFIELD, N.J.- The Post women's volleyball team dropped its first Central Atlantic Collegioate Conference (CACC) match of the season to the Bloomfield on Tuesday evening. The set scores were 25-22, 25-27, 14-25, 23-25, as the Eagles lost in four sets, 3-1.
Sophomore
Skylar German (Kansas City, Mo.) seemed invincible above the net tonight recording a season high 21 kills and adding 15 digs and three blocks. Fellow classmate
Morgan Griffin (Plainfield, Conn.) was the team's second high scorer with 12 kills and also working hard on the defensive end with 15 digs. The Eagles shared the responsibility to absorb the Bear attack as Janielle Alvarez (Norwich, Conn.) and
Julia Slyaktina (Moscow, Russia) both recorded double digit digs, 15 and 11 respectively. Slyaktina also tallied 37 assists.
Early on in the first set, Post found itself in a hole down 6-3 when the Eagles went on a five point run to lead the Bears 9-6. That run proved to make all the difference as Post never trailed for the remainder of the set. German and Griffin closed out the set with their ever reliant offensive firepower to give Post a 25-22 set victory.
The two squads traded points early on in the second set, but Bloomfield managed to build a sneaky five point lead at 19-14. Post was able to render up some late set magic to get even with the Bears 25-25. In a win-by-two scenario, Bloomfield was able to get two timely kills to win the set 27-25. The dramatic finish seemed to give the Bears an edge on their home court going into the later stages of the game.
The Bears were able to string together two major runs in the final two sets that kept the Eagles out of reach. Bloomfield won the third set by a score of 25-14. Post came out in the fourth set firing on all cylinders taking an early 12-6 lead but was unable to hold the opposition from a damaging eight point run. Despite a strong effort, Bloomfield eventually defeated Post by taking the fourth set 25-23.
Post falls to 0-1 in the CACC and 4-4 on the season. Bloomfield improves to 1-0 in the conference and 4-5 overall.
The Eagles will continue conference play when they host Nyack in their home opener at the Drubner Center Wednesday, Sept. 17. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
