Box Score

ORANGEBURG, N.Y. – Behind 15 second half points by senior Derrick Strong (St. Louis, Mo.) the Post University men's basketball team defeated Dominican 93-84 on Thursday night to clinch its ninth-straight Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament bid. The Eagles improve to 10-14 overall and 10-7 in conference play.

Strong finished with a game-high 22 points and grabbed six rebounds. Junior Josh Tatum (Greenville, N.C.) recorded his second double-double of the year with 12 points and 13 boards. Senior Jerry Cummings (Queens, N.Y.) scored a season-high 19 points and had four steals.

After falling behind 60-52 with 15:38 left in the second half Post exploded out in front with a 19-4 run to take command of the game. Strong scored five straight points to begin the stretch and close the deficit to 60-57. Out of an Eagles' timeout, senior Zach Krischer (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) hit a jumper off a dish from junior AJ Harris (Inglewood, Calif.) to put Post in front for the first time in the second half at 65-64 with 11:22 remaining.

Post found itself in front 76-69 with 7:08 left after a dunk by Harris. The Chargers answered with a three-pointer to cut the deficit to four, but would not get any closer. The Eagles used a 13-2 run over a four minute stretch to build their largest lead at 89-74 with just under three minutes remaining. Cummings had four points during the stretch. Dominican finished the game on a 10-4 run, but it was too late as Post grabbed the victory.

The Eagles led by as many as seven points during the first half, but a jumper by Robert Hueston with 8:29 left in the period tied the game 30-30 and the Chargers took a 46-43 lead into the break.

Post outrebounded Dominican 38-32 on the night and forced 12 turnovers which led to 18 points. The Eagles shot 50.0 percent from the field and improved to 4-1 in games in which they made more than half of their shots.

The Eagles close out the regular season on Saturday afternoon at Georgian Court. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m.
