Four Finish In Double Figures As Post Takes Down Bloomfield, 81-67

Mareno Records Double-Double With 20 Points and 12 Rebounds

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University men's basketball team picked up an 81-67 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory over preseason favorite Bloomfield on Wednesday night. With the win the Eagles improve to 4-5 overall and 3-2 in conference play.

Freshman Matt Mareno (San Francisco, Calif.) led Post with 20 points, 12 rebounds, five steals, and four blocks on the night. Senior Nardie Bogues (Baltimore, Md.) and freshman Travis Flagg (Queens, N.Y.) each added 14 points.

Bloomfield opened up a 21-14 lead early in the game led by eight quick points by Marvin Williams. The Eagles countered with a 9-0 run. Sophomore Jah'sheme Ringgold (Easton, Md.) gave Post its first lead of the game at 23-21 with a steal and a quick jumper.

Out of a timeout the Bears tied the score with 9:36 left in the half. Freshman Tyler Desrosiers (Agawam, Mass.) nailed a three on Post's and later found Ringgold inside for an easy layup to put the Eagles in front 28-23.

With just over five minutes left in the half the Eagles led by five. Flagg found Bogues inside for a layup to cap nine straight points to give Post its largest lead of the night at 44-30 with 2:50 remaining. The Eagles shot a season-best 55.2 percent in the first and led 49-37 at the half.

Bloomfield would not go quietly as it staged a 17-5 run over the first 8:06 of the second half to pull even at 54-54. Desrosiers hit his third three-pointer of the game on Post's next possession to give the Eagles the lead for good.

Mareno scored six straight points down the stretch as part of a 14-7 run by Post to close out the game.

The Eagles forced 18 turnovers on the night, their second-highest total this season, which led to 18 points. Post's reserves outscored the Bears' bench 22-0 led by Desrosiers with 11 and Ringgold with nine points.

Post returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 20 against Saint Anselm. The Hawks are currently ranked atop the East Region at 7-1 on the season. Tip-off at Drubner is set for 2 p.m.
