Waterbury, Conn. - The second-seeded Post University women's soccer team eyes its first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference championship game appearance as it takes on No. 6 Georgian Court in the semifinals on Thursday at Municipal Stadium at 2:30 p.m.
Post is coming off of a tough 3-0 win over Goldey-Beacom on Monday afternoon. The game was scoreless at the half before senior
Renel Dennis (Queens, N.Y.) broke through and scored her 17th goal of the season in the 56th minute, giving the Eagles (11-4-1, 9-2-1 CACC) a 1-0 lead. Freshman
Sam Rodriguez (Wayne, N.J.) added a pair of goals - her sixth and seventh of the season - to add some insurance for the Eagles.
The sixth-seeded Lions pulled an upset in a 2-2 (5-3 PK) win over No. 3 Holy Family. Georgian Court was up early, thanks to goals from Elizabeth Kroon and Rachel Marino. Holy Family tied it in the 62nd minute, subsequently sending the game into overtime before the Lions prevailed in penalty kicks.
Post and Georgian Court (10-5-4, 7-4-1 CACC) met on October 18, tying 1-1 (2OT). Freshman
Angela Ciaramella scored the lone goal for the Eagles. Post looked destined for victory, but Jamie Smith scored off of a corner from Laura Nelson to tie the game in the 84th minute.
A win for the Eagles would put them in the CACC championship game against either Felician or Philadelphia, the regular season CACC champion.
