Men’s Soccer Advances To ECAC Championship

Post Defeats Top-Seeded Seton Hill 2-0

WHEELING, W.Va. – The Post University men's soccer advanced to the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division II Championship game on Saturday by defeating top-seeded Seton Hill 2-0 in Wheeling, W.Va. The Eagles are playing for the title for the first time in program-history.

"We travelled a long way to get here and are excited that we played well enough to get to the final. Seton Hill is a good side and I was proud of our effort and the way we dealt with the pressure," said head coach Ted Haley.

Post got the scoring started early after junior Saamir Diarra (Mali) was tackled in the box to earn the Eagles a penalty kick in the 12th minute. Senior Mamadou Balde (Conakry, Guinea) beat the keep to put Post in front 1-0.

Diarra, in his first start of the season, extended the advantage to 2-0 in the 22nd minute with goal off a pass from junior Mamadee Kamara (Monrovia, Liberia).

"Saamir was a menace today in his first start. He made some tremendous plays and scored a great goal for us," added Haley.

The Eagles controlled play for the rest of the game, allowing just two shots on goal on the day. Post outshot the Griffins 10-7 and 4-2 on goal.

Post advances to face third-seeded Salem International in the ECAC Championship tomorrow at noon.
