Eagles Sweep Georgian Court and Advance to CACC Finals

Post To Play In Title Game For First Time In Program History

LAKEWOOD, N. J. – The Post University women's volleyball team defeated the top-seeded and reigning Central Atlantic College Conference (CACC) Champions Georgian Court University in three sets on Friday, Nov. 14 at the GCU Wellness Center. The Eagles advance to the Finals of the CACC Tournament for the first time in program history. The set scores were 25-20, 25-16, and 25-21.

Sophomore Morgan Griffin (Plainfield, Conn.) picked the right time to tie her season high with 11 kills. She connected with an efficient .588 hitting percentage and added seven digs and four assists in the match. Senior Emily Wilman (Perth Amboy, N.J.), hungry for a CACC title, also landed 11 kills and recorded nine digs in her effort defensively. Sophomore Skylar German (Kansas City, Mo.) contributed with nine kills and nine digs, and made an impact from the service line with three of the eight team aces. German and sophomore Nicole Brown (Queens, N.Y.) towered above the net to combine for six block assists. Senior Julia Slyaktina (Moscow, Russia) delivered 35 assists, eight digs, and three block assists on the day.

Georgian Court managed to get off to a scorching start on their home court and jumped out to an early 8-1 lead in the first set. The Eagles settled down and started chipping away at the deficit, trusting their offensive production that has been so effective all season. Post evened the score at 13-13 and started to pull away with timely kills from Wilman down the stretch. The Eagles capped off the set with back-to-back kills from German and took the 1-0 advantage with a 25-20 set victory.

Trailing 7-5 in the early goings of the second set, the Eagles erupted for a 9-1 run that proved to be the difference maker in the set. With a four-point cushion, leading 19-15 in the latter stages of the set, Post poured it on with another 6-1 run, getting kills from four different Eagles. The Eagles displayed an elite level of defensive prowess and held the Lions to only 16 points in another set victory.

The Eagles took a 2-1 lead over the Lions in the third set and never let off of the gas pedal. Today, the Post offense showed what it is capable of. Slyaktina shared the ball brilliantly, as all of the Eagle outside-hitters posed a threat. The Lions managed to remain relevant throughout the set, but with the CACC Championship game within reach, the Eagles continued to bring the intensity scoring in spurts of two and three. Junior Hailey Griffin (Plainfield, Conn.) landed the final kill to complete the sweep and send the Eagles to the CACC Finals.

Post improves to 21-10 on the season and has won seven consecutive matches. Georgian Court finished their season with an overall record of 20-14.

The Eagles advance to the CACC Championship game and will square off against the Cougars of Caldwell University in a quest to capture its first CACC Title in program history on Saturday, Nov. 15. First serve is set for 12 p.m. The Eagles were 1-1 against the Cougars in the regular season.
