Eagles Overpower Philadelphia and Advance to Semi Finals

Post Defeats Philadelphia 3-0

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University women's volleyball team defeated the third-seeded Philadelphia University in three sets on Tuesday, Nov. 11 at the Drubner Center. The Eagles advance to the Semi Final round of the Central Atlantic College Conference (CACC) Tournament for the first time since the 2007 season. The set scores were 25-17, 25-20, and 25-23.

Three Eagles recorded double-digit kills in the Quarterfinal match. Sophomore and CACC Player of the Year, Skylar German (Kansas City, Mo.) led all scorers with 14 kills connecting with an efficient .538 hitting percentage and tallied 10 digs in her effort defensively. Senior Emily Wilman (Perth Amboy, N.J.) followed suit with a double-double of her own. Wilman finished with 12 kills and 16 digs against the Rams; sophomore Nicole Brown (Queens, N.Y.) landed 12 kills and added three blocks. Senior and First-Team All-CACC selection, Julia Slyaktina (Moscow, Russia) orchestrated the Eagle attack with 35 assists and managed 7 kills in just 10 attempts.

From the start, the atmosphere was electric inside the Drubner Center and the Eagles played off of the excitement jumping out to an early 7-2 lead. Post led the entire set but never strung together a momentous run that put the set out of reach for Philadelphia. The Rams managed to creep their way back into it, cutting their deficit to one point on two occasions, however Post maintained their composure above the net and finished the set on a 6-1 run. Wilman landed back-to-back kills to give the Eagles a 25-17 set victory.

This time it was the Rams that got off to the hot start, pulling ahead 10-5 in the early goings of the second set. The Eagles played a resilient brand of volleyball on the defensive end and battled back to within three trailing 14-17. Behind the service from Slyaktina, the Eagles scored a 6-0 run highlighted by three consecutive kills by Brown to lead the Rams 21-17. Post pieced it together at the right time and finished strong to win the second set 25-20 and take a 2-0 advantage.

The stat line made it seem like the third set was closer than it was. Post played clean and technical volleyball offensively, and showed heart defensively. The Eagles appeared confident and in-control both when they were up 12-7 and knotted in a tie 17-17. The Rams managed to mount a comeback and pull within one 24-23 in the latter stages of the set. With the fans on their feet, Brown landed one final thunderous kill to complete the sweep and send the Eagle to the Semi Final round.

Post improves to 20-10 on the season and has won six consecutive. Philadelphia finished their season with an overall record of 15-15.

The Eagles advance to the Semi Final round of the CACC Tournament and will travel to Lakewood, N.J. to square off against the top-seeded and reigning champion Lions of Georgian Court University on Friday, Nov. 14. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
