WATERBURY, Conn. – Congratulations to
Skylar German (Kansas City, Mo.) for earning the honors and being named ECAC Volleyball Player of the Week!
Â
The Post University women's volleyball team showed off its muscles on the road to win its third consecutive match and fifth Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match of the season on Wednesday, Oct. 8. The set scores were: 25-22, 25-20, and 25-20.
Â
German picked up right where she left off last week and recorded a team high 10 kills on the match. Senior
Emily Wilman (Perth Amboy, N.J.) landed nine kills complimenting her 10 digs, as sophomores
Morgan Griffin (Plainfield, Conn.) and Nichole Brown (Queens, N.Y.) both finished with eight kills. Post held a block party in Rutherford, N.J. and Felician was not invited. The Eagles tallied an impressive 14 blocks to hold down the Golden Falcon offense in three sets. Senior
Julia Slyaktina (Moscow, Russia) was credited with all 40 assists as she navigated the Eagle attack and junior libero
Janiellee Alvarez (Norwich, Conn.) did well to handle the pressure from the opposition with 13 digs on the night.
Â
The Golden Falcons started the first set on fire scoring the opening 6 points of the set. Working from a 11-16 deficit, the Eagles went on a sizeable 12-0 run blanketing the Felician offense. With an unshakable defensive effort and relentless attack, Post went on to take the first set 25-22.
Â
The action went back-and-forth in the second set as both teams traded points;
Morgan Griffin and German tallied eight of the Eagles' first 11 points by way of the kill. Post took over in the second half of the set having their way and landing a 14-5 run to prevail 25-20.
Â
The third set played out similar to the previous as both teams kept it close without a game changing run. Felician jumped ahead to a 14-9 advantage and that's when Post turned it on. The Eagles' outside hitters were able to connect for timely kills and run away with a 16-6 run to regain the lead and eventually take the final set 25-20.
Â
The Eagles play for the pressure situations and, like they have done so many times this season, welcome the opportunity for a comeback win in the later stages of a set. Tonight's 3-0 sweep does not suggest a comeback win; however, having trailed down the stretch in every set of the match, the Eagles played sensational second half volleyball to earn the road victory.Â
Â
Post improves to 5-2 in conference play, locked in a tie for third place in the CACC standings. The Eagles improve to 9-7 overall on the season. Felician stands at 3-5 in the CACC, and drops to 5-7 thus far on the season.
Â
This match marked the first of a nine game road trip for the Eagles as they continue conference play on Friday, Oct. 10 when they travel to Orangeburg, N.Y. to take on the Lady Chargers of Dominican College in their second meeting of the season. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
