Eagles Stay Hot on the Road, Sweep Dominican

Post Defeats Dominican 3-0

WATERBURY, Conn. –The Post University women's volleyball team collected its fourth consecutive win and roll to its sixth Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory of the season on Friday, Oct. 10. Post evens the season series at 1-1 defeating the Lady Chargers in three sets. The set scores were: 25-18, 25-21, and 25-14.

Five Eagles accounted for kills Friday night, as the team landed 40 in the match. Junior Hailey Griffin (Plainfield, Conn.) led all scorers in the match with 10 kills with an effective kill percentage of .400 adding two blocks. Senior Emily Wilman (Perth Amboy, N.J.) recorded nine kills as sophomore Skylar German (Kansas City, Mo.) complimented her eight kills with 12 digs. Sophomore Nichole Brown (Queens, N.Y.) finished with seven kills and sophomore Morgan Griffin (Plainfield, Conn.) contributed with six. Senior Julia Slyaktina (Moscow, Russia) totaled 34 assists as she piloted the Eagle attack to a sweet three sets.

In the first meeting between the two teams, Dominican walked away from the Drubner Center getting the better of the Eagles 3-2. This time Post stepped on the court and demanded revenge from the first serve of the match. The Eagles put together a 7-1 run in the opening 10 points recorded in the first set. Looking to add to the cushion, Post rattled off another five consecutive points to take a 13-6 lead. Dominican couldn't manage to close the gap and the seven points remained the advantage as Hailey Griffin unloaded a kill and Kerrin Kallmann (Lake Grove, N.Y.) landed a service ace to win the set 25-18.

Post didn't take the same approach in the second set. Down the stretch, the Eagles found themselves in a hole 16-13; but never count the Eagles out of a set because they are famous for their second half play. Post outscored their opponent 12-5 in the later stages of the set to even the score and eventually take the set 25-21.

As the third set began to take shape, both squads were neck and neck, Post edging the Lady Chargers 13-12. The Eagles found their groove offensively to string together a 5-1 run. Dominican opted for a timeout, looking to ice the Eagle rhythm. Without warning, the Eagles fired off seven consecutive points, capped off with an emphatic kill by Brown, to complete the sweep and take the final set 25-14.

Post climbs the latter and improves to 6-2 in conference play, locked in a tie for second place in the North Division of the CACC standings. The Eagles improve to 10-7 and match their highest win total in the previous seven seasons. Dominican stands at 6-3 in the CACC, and 9-3 overall thus far on the season.

The Eagles continue conference play on Saturday, Oct. 11 when they travel to Philadelphia, PA. to face off against the Devils of University of the Sciences. First serve is set for 12 p.m.
