The Mountaineers blocked a punt in the closing seconds of the second quarter and returned it to the house to narrow the deficit to 14-6 at the break. Mansfield pulled within two at 14-12 on their first possession of the second half on a touchdown pass from Mike Maniscalco to Eddie Larcom. Wingate scored from seven yards out midway through the third and the Mountaineers added another score with 7:49 left in the game.

After blocking another put, Mansfield was setup deep in Eagles' territory late in the game. Bernard Peterson picked off Maniscalco with 35 seconds remaining to seal the victory for Post.
