Two Second Half Goals Give Post Another Win

Mertz And Dunster Score For Eagles

RUTHERFORD, N.J. - Two second half goals propelled the Post University women's soccer team to another Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory as it defeated Felician, 2-0 in Rutherford, N.J.

"It was a huge for us against a very good team on the road. Felician is well coached and coming off wins against Holy Family and Georgian Court. We nknow we had to play well to win and we did, especially defensively," said head coach Matt Micros.

After a scoreless first half, freshman Katharina Mertz (Buxtehude, Germany) tapped in an easy shot in the 65th minute after a shot from senior Tessa Dunster (Stamford, Conn.) went through the hands of goalkeeper, Julia Sheridan. It was the fifth goal of the season for Mertz.

Dunster, last season's CACC scoring champion would get in on the scoring action as well in the 82nd minute, as she put a shot past Sheridan after a give and go with senior Renel Dennis (Queens, N.Y.). It was the first goal of the season for Dunster.

The win kept the Eagles in first place in the CACC, as they are in 8-2 overall and 7-1 in the conference and also clinched their first tournament bid since 2011.

"Today was great to clinch a playoff spot. Lexxi Carroll was huge reason we won today, she was all over the field," added Micros.

In the first half, Post stymied Felician by not allowing a shot. Sheridan stopped four shots for the Golden Falcons in the first half.

Up next for the Eagles is a road game against the last undefeated team in CACC play, Philadelphia. The Rams have not allowed a goal in a CACC game this season.
