Men’s Soccer Clinches CACC Tournament Bid With 4-0 Victory Over Nyack

Post Advances To Postseason For 10th Straight Year

WATERBURY, Conn. – In a must-win game on Friday afternoon, the Post University men's soccer team defeated Nyack 4-0 at LaMoy Field to earn a spot in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament for the 10th consecutive season. The Eagles earned the seventh seed with the victory.

"I'm very proud of the guys for continuing to fight and bring us from out of the playoff picture right back into it. The guys have played with a lot of heart to overcome the adversity. Winning these last four games in a row is more of a testiment to who we are as a team," said head coach Ted Haley

Post dominated on both sides of the field from start to finish, but could not find the back of the net in the first half despite outshooting the Warriors 9-1. Junior Raphael Moura (Danbury, Conn.) had four headers in the opening period that just missed the target.

The Eagles converted on three corner kicks early in the second half all off the foot of junior Gustavo Ferreira (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) who finished with three assists. He first found the head of junior Jacob Butler-Bowden (Adelaide, Australia) in the 49th minute for his first goal of the season. A minute later, Moura scored his team-leading ninth goal. Freshman Stefan Tomasevic (London, England) scored the third goal of the half in the 56th minute.

Junior Tiago Martins (Porto, Portugal) scored the final goal after the Warriors' keeper left the net and was tripped up by his own player. Martins easily scored on the empty net.

The Eagles outshot Nyack 17-1 overall and 12-0 on goal.

"We've solidified our back line and the whole squad is coming together at the right time. Now that we're in, it's a whole new chance for us," added Haley.

Post's will visit No. 2 Dominican on Tuesday, Nov. 4 at 2 p.m. in the CACC Quarterfinals.
