Post Men’s Soccer Grabs Huge CACC Victory 4-0 Over Bloomfield

Eagles Earn First Road Win of the Season

BLOOMFIELD, N.J. – Behind three second-half goals, the Post University men's soccer team defeated Bloomfield 4-0 in a must-win Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) matchup on Tuesday night. Juniors Gustavo Ferriera (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) and Tiago Martins (Porto, Portugal) each recorded goal and assist in the victory.

"We played well one of our best of matches of the year. It was very physical and the guys dealt well with the physicality. We were able to produce on the offensive end and get the goals that we needed. Our back four were fantastic all night in helping us preserve the shutout," said head coach Ted Haley.

The Eagles controlled the game from the opening whistle to earn their second shutout in the last three games. Senior Souleymane Kone (Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoire) put Post in front in the 26th minute off an assist by Martins. Post continued to have chances in throughout the first half by outshooting the Bears 13-3 in the period and headed into the break ahead 1-0.

In the second half Post made the most of its chances, scoring three times on four shots on goal. Senior Mamadou Balde (Conakry, Guniea) found Ferriera inside the box as he blasted it for a goal in the 52nd minute.

Junior Raphael Moura (Danbury, Conn.) scored his team-leading eighth goal of the year to put the Eagles in front 3-0. In the 70th minute Martins scored the final Post goal.

The Eagles outshot Bloomfield 20-5 on the night, including 9-1 on goal. Balde had four shots in the game.

"We know we need a win on Friday in order to get in to the tournament. The guys are playing well at this point and we think we still have a great shot," added Haley.

Post returns home for its final game of the season on Friday, Oct. 31 at 1 p.m. against Nyack. With a victory, the Eagles clinch a tournament berth and with a loss they are eliminated.
