Post Defeats Goldey-Beacom 3-1

WILMINGTON, Del. – The Post University women's volleyball team defeated the Goldey-Beacom Lightening for its ninth Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory of the season on Friday evening, Oct. 24. The set scores were: 23-25, 25-20, 25-17, and 25-16.

Senior Emily Wilman (Perth Amboy, N.J.) and sophomore Skylar German (Kansas City, Mo.) had a night for themselves, both recording double-doubles in the kill-digs department. Wilman led all scorers in the match landing 18 kills with an efficient kill percentage of .444, as she added 16 digs. German finished with 15 kills in only 27 attempts for an impressive .481 kill percentage; she also tallied 18 digs on the night. The defensive responsibility was shared amongst the team as five eagles finished with double-digit kills. Sophomore Nichole Brown (Queens, N.Y.) wasn't shy above the net rejecting the Lightning attack with six blocks. Senior Julia Slyaktina (Moscow, Russia) orchestrated the Eagle attack to a come-from-behind victory with 44 assists and five service aces against the opposition.

Goldey-Beacom came out on fire, playing like they were possessed in the first set. The Lightning struck with an opening 14-3 run but the Eagles answered back with a 12-1 run of their own compliments of the set-kill connection between Slyaktina and German that evened the score at 17-17. Goldey-Beacom managed to edge a two point set victory 25-23 and take the first set on their home court.

This time it was Post that came out firing on all cylinders in the second set leading 14-5 in the early stages. From this point, the Eagle defense let up to allow Goldey-Beacom to come within reach but Post managed to score a sporadic 11 points and roll to a 25-20 set win and even the set series at 1-1.

The third set took off in back-and-forth action until the Eagles put together a game changing 9-1 run that catapulted them ahead 15-6. The Eagles were able to keep their distance and maintain an eight point advantage taking the third set 25-17.

With the momentum on their side, the Eagles was looking to finish the job in the fourth set. Once again starting strong, Post climbed out to a 12-8 point lead and then the Eagles hit Goldey-Beacom with an anticipated 9-2 run that proved to be the dagger. The run featured five consecutive kills from five different Eagle players. Junior Hailey Griffin (Plainfield, Conn.) capped off the set landing a kill to weather the storm and defeat the Lightning 3-1.

Post improves to 8-4 in CACC play and 14-9 overall. Goldey-Beacom falls to 5-10 in the CACC standings and 11-14 thus far on the season.

The Eagles continue conference play on Saturday, Oct. 25 when they travel to Wilmington, Del. to take on the Wilmington University Wildcats. First serve is set for 12 p.m.
