WATERBURY, Conn. – Coming off its second victory of the season the Post University sprint football team looks to keep rolling on Friday night as it visits Cornell for a 7 p.m. kickoff. The Eagles have won the last three meetings between the two teams including the last two at Schoellkopf Field.

Last Time Out: Post 28, Penn 21 – Box Score | Recap | Video HighlightsThe Eagles put up their best offensive performance of the season last Friday night as they amassed 399 yards in a 28-21 victory at Penn. Running back Joe Lynch (Wolcott, Conn.) ran for 142 yards and two scores. Quarterback
Greg Volpe (North Haven, Conn.) threw for a season-high 254 yards and two touchdowns, both to
Jay'Len Mahan (Waterbury, Conn.) who hauled in four passes for 146 yards.

After Penn scored a touchdown with a minute left in the first quarter, the Eagles needed just two plays to tie the game 7-7. Volpe hit Mahan for an 81-yard touchdown pass. With just over a minute left in the first half, the Eagles had the ball on the Penn 30 yard line on fourth and seven. Post decided not to punt and Volpe found Mahan once again for a touchdown to put the Eagles in front 21-7 at the break.
Post slowed the game down with a 12-play drive that took over seven minutes to end the third quarter. Lynch was a workhorse on the drive, rushing nine times for 54 yards, including a one-yard touchdown score to put the Eagles in front 28-14 early in the fourth. Penn pulled within a score at 28-21 with 2:49 left. Post was forced to punt with 1:54 remaining. Sophomore
Chris Leggio (Brewster, N.Y.) forced a fumble and recovered in Penn territory with just over a minute left to secure the win.

Scouting the Big RedCornell has also won twice this season with victories over Franklin Pierce and Princeton. Last time out, the Big Red stayed close with Navy before falling 42-30 at home. Cornell is third in the league in scoring offense at 27.8 points per game, but allows almost as many points at 26.8 per contest. The Big Red have given up the most total yards this season at just over 350 per game and are last in pass defense with 221.6 yards per game and 10 touchdowns allowed. Quarterback Rob Panullo has thrown for 661 yards and nine score while running back has rushed for 328 yards. Defensively, Chris D'Ambrosio leads the team with 35 tackles, including six for a loss.

All-Time SeriesPost holds a 3-1 lead in the all-time series between the two squads and has won the last three meetings. Last season, the Eagles defeated Cornell 21-10 in their first-ever home game at LaMoy Field.

Honored By The ConferenceJay'Len Mahan was named CSFL Special Teams Player of the Week on Oct. 14 for his performance against Navy. Mahan returned the opening kickoff of the game 92 yards for a touchdown, the only points for Post in the game. This season, Mahan has been tremendous on special teams with 246 total return yards on eight returns for an average of 30.7 per return. In addition to the 92-yard return, he has had punt returns of 40 and 42 yards this year.

Vincent Dellefave (Montville, N.J.) earned CSFL Defensive Player of the Week honors on Oct. 21 after he grabbed two interceptions against Penn. The senior also was second on the team with four tackles. This season Dellefave leads the CSFL with six passes broken up and has recorded 15 tackles, two forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery.

In The League Rankings – Conference StatisticsPost is near the top of the conference in pass defense, allowing just 154.8 yards through the air per game. The Eagles lead the CSFL in punt return average at 18.9 per punt and are one of just two teams to have a return touchdown. Mahan is second in the conference with 132.0 all-purpose yards per game. Jamele has 31 total tackles and four sacks, both good for third in the CSFL. He leads the conference with 8.5 tackles for loss.

Anthony Jamele broke Chris Lopez's career record of 14. Jamele currently has 14.5 sacks in his career.

Jay'Len Mahan is currently the leader in all-purpose yards, but can become the third member of the 1,000-yard club with just 37 more receiving yards and the all-time leader with 67 yards. He also needs four receiving touchdowns to break Dan Awwad's record of 15.
Greg Volpe can become Post's all-time leader in passing yards with 223 more yards and touchdowns with four more.
