Waterbury, Conn. - An overtime goal from junior
Lexxi Carroll (Plainville, Conn.) lifted the shorthanded Post University Eagles women's soccer team to a 3-2 win at Concordia in a key Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game.
The win snapped a three-game winless streak for the Eagles; its longest of the season. The Eagles are now 9-4-1 overall and 8-2-1 in the CACC.
The winless Clippers got on the scoreboard first in the 37th minute thanks to an own goal. Kaela Blanco's shot went off the post and was knocked in by an Eagle defender.
Post would go in to the half trailing, 1-0, but that didn't last long as sophomore
Valerie Moore (Bloomfield, Conn.) took advantage of a turnover and put it past goalkeeper Samantha Street to tie the game, 1-1 in the 51st minute.
Blanco would get a goal of her own for the Clippers as she scored on a breakaway in the 67th minute after taking advantage of a misplaced header from the Eagles.
Post would respond 11 minutes later as freshman
Sam Rodriguez (Wayne, N.J.) took passes from senior
Renel Dennis (Queens, N.Y.) and freshman
Misty Kaiwi (Walpahu, Hawaii) and scored her third goal of the season, tying the game at 2-2.
No one would score the rest of regulation, and the teams would go into overtime. It was the second straight overtime game for the Eagles.
Eight minutes in, Carroll took a pass from freshman
Angela Ciaramella (Hamden, Conn.) to notch her second goal of the season and give the Eagles the win. Concordia (0-11-1, 0-10-0 CACC) has not won a game in three seasons, and has not won a CACC game in four seasons.
The Eagles were already withoutÂ
Brianne Scott (Williamstown, N.J.) and Brooke Lawlor (Rocky Hill, Conn.) for the season. Also missing from the game was defending CACC goal scoring champ, senior Tessa Dunster (Stamford, Conn.) making it an uphill battle for the Eagles. "It doesn't matter how talented your team is, when you lose players of that caliber, those are some big holes to fill," head coach Matt Micros said. "Full credit to the girls for finding a way to get it done and coming from behind twice."Junior
Brittany Carroll (Plainville, Conn.) received the win in net. She had one save on the day. Junior
Laura Morgan (Brush Prairie, Wash.) played the first half in net, and had a save.
The win also helped the Eagles get closer to home field advantage throughout the CACC playoffs.Â
"Our goal at the beginning of the year was to make the playoffs as a top 4 seed. If we can win our last conference game next week [at Bloomfield, Oct. 29], we will do exactly that," Micros said.
Up next for the Eagles is an out of conference game at Molloy. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
