Post Suffers Loss to Philadelphia 2-3

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. –The Post University women's volleyball team wasn't able to outlast Philadelphia University in a match that lasted five sets on Saturday, Oct. 18, suffering its third Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) loss of the season. The set scores were: 21-25, 25-20, 21-25, 25-23, and 7-15.

Sophomore Skylar German (Kansas City, Mo.) recorded a season high 22 kills against the Rams and led all scorers in the match; German also made an impact defensively with six blocks. Senior Emily Wilman (Perth Amboy, N.J.) recorded her eighth double-double of the season landing 16 kills to add to 15 digs. Sophomore Morgan Griffin and junior Hailey Griffin combined for 16 kills and 29 digs. Senior Julia Slyaktina (Moscow, Russia) arranged the Eagle attack with 50 assists, and registered 13 digs; junior libero Janiellee Alvarez (Norwich, Conn.) finished with 16 digs on the afternoon.

The first set set the tone for the remainder of the match, as Philadelphia went on an early 5-0 run and Post responded in similar fashion. The action was back-and-forth, both teams making plays defensively to keep their opponent from building momentum. The Rams managed to creep out to a three point advantage. Post made one last push towards the end of the set but came up short as Philadelphia took the first set by of score of 25-21.

The two teams played to an even 13-13 in the early stages of the second set. The Eagles found a rhythm offensively with a series of kills, compliments of German, in the second half and kept the opposition at bay. Post went on a 5-1 run down the stretch to win the set 25-20 and even the match at 1-1.

Post stepped on the court and opened with a 9-3 run in the third set. The Rams answered with an 8-3 run of their own and evened the score at 11 all. From this point, there were four lead changes, neither team making headway as the score remained even at 21-21. Philadelphia managed to score the final four points of the set to win 25-21.

The Eagles came out in the fourth set on a mission. Post gained a one point advantage, 4-3, and never surrendered the lead. The Eagles built a commanding 16-9 lead, but allowed the Rams to make their way back into the game as the Eagles managed to cling to a one point lead 24-23. Post scored the set point to even the set series at 2-2.

The fifth and final set was all Philadelphia. The Rams rattled off a 7-0 run and took control leading the Eagles 12-2. There were signs of life for the Eagles down the stretch, but Post simply ran out of time to mount a comeback. Philadelphia went on to win the set 15-7 and handed Post their first loss in October.

The Eagles drop their third conference game of the season to stand at 8-3 in the CACC standings, 13-8 overall. Philadelphia improves to 8-3 in conference play, and 10-10 thus far on the season.
