Eagles Tie With Georgian Court

Ciaramella Scores For Post

Waterbury, Conn. - The Post University women's soccer team had its first tie this season as it played Georgian Court to a 1-1 (2OT) draw in a tightly contested Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game at LaMoy Field.

Post is now 8-4-1 overall and 7-2-1 in the CACC and remain in third place in the conference with 25 points.

Despite opportunities to score, no one was able to get on the board until the 41st minute when freshman Angela Ciaramella (Hamden, Conn.) took a lead pass from senior Renel Dennis (Queens N.Y.) and blew by goalkeeper Casey O'Connor and easily put the ball into the empty net, giving the Eagles a 1-0 lead going into the break.

Junior Laura Morgan (Brush Prairie, Wash.) finished with one save in the half before being relieved by junior Brittany Carroll (Plainville, Conn.) in the second half.

It looked as though the game was destined for an Eagles victory, but Georgian Court's Jamie Smith put a shot past Carroll in the 84th minute off of a corner from Laura Nelson, tying the game, 1-1.

The teams would go scoreless the rest of the half before playing two overtimes. Niether team took a shot in overtime.

Morgan, who played both overtimes, was credited with the tie and is 3-2-1 on the season.

Even with victory snatched with just minutes remaining, head coach Matt Micros was pleased with the team's effort as it was shorthanded.

"Some people had to play 90 minutes. Others had to play 110," Micros said.

With just two games remaining, if the Eagles win out, they will qualify as a top four seed and get home field advantage throughout the CACC tournament. Higher seeds get home field advantage for the first round and the Eagles are hosting the final two rounds of the tournament.

Before the game, six seniors were honored before the game. The seniors were a part of one of the most successful classes in Post history, as they were able to crack the National Soccer Coaches Association of America's Division II East Region rankings for the first time in school history. The seniors honored were Tessa Dunster (Stamford, Conn.), Eryka Baez (Clifton, N.J.), Shannon Bahme (Naugatuck, Conn.), Alison Mrowinski (Syracuse, N.Y.), Brina Yanez (West Haven, Conn.) and Renel Dennis (Queens, N.Y.).

Up next for the Eagles is a CACC road game at Concordia on Oct. 21 at 3 p.m.
