Late Goal Lifts Men’s Soccer Over Georgian Court

Eagles Improve To 6-1 At Home This Season

WATERBURY, Conn. – Senior Mamadou Balde (Conakry, Guniea) scored off a corner in the 82nd minute to lead the Post University men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) rival Georgian Court on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles improve to 6-1at home on the season.

"We were not at our best but grinded it out and found a way to win. I'm excited Mamadou got the game-winner. He's worked really hard today and it was nice to see that come to fruition," said head coach Ted Haley.

Post created some chances in the first half as freshman Stephan Tomasevic (London, England) had two headers that were saved by the Lions' keeper Rylan Gentil.

Junior Jacob Butler-Bowden (Adelaide, Australia) found classmate Tiago Martins (Porto, Portugal) on a long ball in the 40th minute. Martins put it home to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead heading into the break.

Early in the second half the neither team could find a rhythm. The Lions had two shots on goal saved by sophomore Serigne Baba Gaye (Dakar, Senegal). Michael Clarke headed in a corner in the 65th minute to tie the game 1-1.

Post continued to pressure and create chances throughout the half. The Eagles had 12 corner kicks on the day with the final one put home by Balde for the victory.

"We created chances all day but had trouble finishing. I'm very proud of the guys for grinding it out in a must-win game," added Haley.

The Eagles face a tough challenge on Wednesday, Oct. 22 as they visit LIU-Post for a 3:30 p.m. start. Last season Post defeated the No.1 and undefeated Pioneers 1-0 at home.
