WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University sprint football team heads to Philadelphia on Friday night to play Penn at Franklin Field at 7 p.m. The Eagles have defeated the Quakers in each of the last two meetings. Junior Anthony Jamele (Terryville, Conn.) can becomes Post's all-time leader in sacks with one on Friday.

Junior Jay'Len Mahan (Waterbury, Conn.) got the Post University sprint football team off on the right foot on Friday night against Navy with a 92-yard kickoff return to open the game. The Eagles would not score against at Navy took the game by a score of 41-6.
 
On the first Navy possession of the night, the Eagles still seemed to have all the momentum. After the Midshipmen advanced down to the Post 42 yards line, senior Vincent Dellefave (Montville, N.J.) forced and recovered a fumble.
 
Post could not figure out the CSFL's leading rusher Eric Wellmon as he ran for 226 yards and four touchdowns.
 
Scouting the Quakers
Penn is 3-1 on the season with its only loss coming 21-19 at the hands of Navy. Last time out the Quakers defeated Franklin Pierce 14-7 on the road behind 163 rushing yards and two touchdowns by Mike Beamish. Beamish is second in the conference with 512 yards on the ground and six scores. Penn averages 309 yards per game with 189 of that coming through the air. Defensively, the Quakers also allow 309 yards per contest, including 151 on the ground.

The series between the teams is tied 2-2, but the Eagles have taken the last two games by an average of 26 points. Last time Post visited Franklin Field on 2012 it came home with a 48-27 victory. Jay'Len Mahan returned a kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown in the victory.

Honored By The Conference
Jay'Len Mahan was named CSFL Special Teams Player of the Week on Oct. 14 for his performance against Navy. Mahan returned the opening kickoff of the game 92 yards for a touchdown, the only points for Post in the game. This season, Mahan has been tremendous on special teams with 246 total return yards on eight returns for an average of 30.7 per return. In addition to the 92-yard return, he has had punt returns of 40 and 42 yards this year.
 
In The League Rankings – Conference Statistics
Post is near the top of the conference in pass defense, allowing just 129.3 yards through the air per game. The Eagles lead the CSFL in total return yards with 403 yards (279 kickoff, 124 punt) and one touchdown. Mahan is fourth in the conference with 123.7 all-purpose yards per game. Jamele has 27 total tackles, including six for loss, both a good for third in the CSFL.
 
Approaching the Record Books
A few Eagles have a chance to break career records this season. Anthony Jamele currently has 13.5 sacks and is just 0.5 away for Chris Lopez's record. Greg Volpe can become Post's all-time leader in passing yards with 477 more yards and touchdowns with six more. Jay'Len Mahan is currently the leader in all-purpose yards, but can become the third member of the 1,000-yard club with 183 receiving yards and the all-time leader with 213 yards. He also needs six receiving touchdowns to break Dan Awwad's record of 15.

Head coach Michael Mannetti has named seniors Shaquille Williams, Matt Santos, Jashua Guadalupe and Dylan Celone team captains for 2014.
 
On The Horizon
The Eagles wrap up their three-game road trip next Friday, Oct. 24 at Cornell. Kickoff in Ithaca, N.Y. is at 7 p.m.
