PREVIEW: Women’s Soccer Set To Kick Off Season

Will Face Mercy And Queens In Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.



WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University Eagles women's soccer team kicks off its 2013 campaign with two out of conference matches at the Mercy Kickoff Classic tournament this week in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.
 
Post is coming off of a 4-12 season from a year ago and an 11th place finish in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) standings. The Eagles will take on two teams from the East Coast Conference. They will play host Mercy (5-12-1 in 2012) on September 6 at 4:30 p.m. and Queens College (10-4-4) at noon on September 8.
 
Returning for Post for her junior season is All-CACC First teamer and ECAC All-Star from a season ago, senior Renel Dennis (Queens, N.Y.). Junior Tessa Dunster (Stamford, Conn.), who contributed six goals last season, will also be returning.
 
Preseason Prognostications
The Eagles were picked to finish 10th this season by the coaches in the preseason poll, receiving 47 votes.
 
Closing In
Renel Dennis is just five points away from breaking the school record for points. She is currently at 50 points. Sabrina Sinopoli is the all-time leader at 54. Dennis is also nine points away from breaking the school's all-time assists record. Sinopoli holds that record at 16.
 
Holding Their Own
The Eagles boast a 3-1 record against Mercy all-time, having won the first three times the teams played.
·         September 4, 2010 – L, 4-1 vs. Mercy
·         September 2, 2009 – W, 2-1 at Mercy
·         September 25, 2006 – W, 1-0 vs. Mercy
·         October 23, 2002 – W, 5-2 vs. Mercy
It will be the first meeting between Post and Queens on September 8.
 
What Comes Next?
After the team's weekend in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y., the Eagles open up their home schedule as Lincoln University comes to LaMoy Field on September 10 at 4 p.m.
