WATERBURY, Conn. – Coming off a 21-10 victory in its home opener against Cornell, the Post University sprint football team faces a tough task against defending Collegiate Sprint Football League (CSFL) Champions, Army, on Friday night in West Point, N.Y. Freshman
James Harrington (Danbury, Conn.) and sophomore
Jay'Len Mahan (Waterbury, Conn.) were both honored by the conference after the victory.
Â
Last Time Out: Post 21, Cornell 10 – Box Score | Recap
Harrington ran for a single-game record 156 yards and two long touchdowns as the Eagles were victorious in their first on-campus home game in program history. Sophomore
Anthony Jamele (Terryville, Conn.) paced the defense with 8.5 tackles including a school-record four sacks.
Â
Mahan took the opening kickoff back 91 yards to give Post a 7-0 lead. Cornell answered right back on its first possession with a touchdown. After an Eagles punt, an 11-play drive for Cornell ended with a 27-yard field goal to take a 10-7 lead with 8:45 left in the first half. Post's offense was stagnant for most of the half as they were held to just five yards of total offense. An 18-yard run by Harrington midway through the second quarter gave the Eagles its only first down of the half.
Â
Cornell had a costly unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on a Post third down midway through the third quarter that kept the Eagles' drive alive. Two plays later Harrington broke a 60-yard run to put Post ahead 14-10 with 5:24 left in the third.
Â
Freshman
Fabian Santa Cruz (Vista, Calif.) came up with two sacks on Cornell's next possession to continue the momentum swing in favor of the Eagles. After a punt, Harrington took the first play of the ensuing drive 45-yards to the house to extend the Eagles advantage to 21-10. The Eagles defense held Cornell to just 1-yard rushing on 28 attempts. Post recorded seven sacks on the day.
Â
Conference Accolades
Post had two players honored by the CSFL after its week one victory. Harrington was selected as Player of the Week after his 156 yards, two touchdown performance.
