Men’s Basketball Drops Road Contest At Bloomfield

Four Eagles In Double-Figures In Defeat

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University men's basketball fell in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) road contest to Bloomfield, 76-70, on Wednesday night. The Eagles drop to 2-6 overall and 2-3 in CACC play on the season.
 
Four Eagles finished in double-figures led by senior Derrick Strong (St. Louis, Mo.) with 15 points. Strong also added four rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Seniors Devin Willis (Seattle, Wash.) and Jerry Cummings (Queens, N.Y.) each added 11 points.
 
Ahead 9-8 with 14:14 remaining in the first half, Post used a 6-0 stretch to pull in front 15-8. Senior Stephen Perry Jr. (Westhampton, N.J.) capped off the run with a layup off a dish from senior Effrin Ellison (Waterbury, Conn.).
 
The Deacons cut the lead to 18-15 with just over nine minutes left in the half before a 7-0 Eagles' run gave them their largest lead of the game at 25-15 with 5:56 remaining. Strong had four points during the series. Post carried a five-point advantage into the break.
 
Bloomfield opened the second half with nine straight points led by Claude Blue with four, to open up a 38-35 advantage. Willis tied the game with a shot from long range with 16:01 remaining. The teams traded baskets over the next few minutes before a layup from senior Josh Tatum (Greenville, N.C.) put Post ahead 45-43.
 
After tying the game 47-47, the Deacons used an 11-2 run to take its largest lead of the night at 58-49 with 9:48 left. The Eagles quickly answered with a 9-0 run of their own to knot the game at 58-58. Willis scored five during the comeback.
 
Cummings scored from behind the arc on two straights possessions to give Post a 67-65 advantage with just over five minutes left. It would be the last time the Eagles were ahead as they made just one basket over the final 5:11 of the game.
 
Post forced 20 turnovers, which led to 24 points, but were outscored 44-26 in the paint. The Eagles were outrebounded 50-24.
 
The Eagles are back in action on Friday, Dec. 20 on the road at American International. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
