Men’s Basketball Defeated At Felician Despite First-Half Lead

Derrick Strong Scores 24 Points In Defeat

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Senior Derrick Strong (St. Louis, Mo.) scored 24 points, but the Post University men's basketball team dropped a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest at Felician on Tuesday night. The Eagles fall to 1-4 on the season and 1-2 in CACC play.
 
Post fell behind by 10 early as the Golden Falcons hit seven of their first 10 shots to pull in front 18-8 with 12:52 left in the first half. The Eagles used a 19-7 run to erase the deficit and take a 27-25 lead with 3:37 left in the first. Senior Effrin Ellison (Waterbury, Conn.) scored seven of his 10 points during the stretch.
 
After Felician tied the game 27-27, senior Jerry Cummings (Queens, N.Y.) scored four straight points to give the Eagles a 31-27 lead heading into the break.
 
Cummings scored two early baskets in the second half to push the Post advantage out to 38-31, the Eagles largest lead of the game. Felician quickly answered with a 22-10 run to pull ahead 53-48 midway through the second half. Strong hit two free throws and senior Zach Krischer (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) hit a shot from deep to tie the game back up at 57-57 with 9:36 left in the game.
 
The teams traded baskets over the next few minutes before the Golden Falcons scored seven straight points to pull ahead 66-57 with just under five minutes remaining. The Eagles would only get as close at four points over the final few minutes.
 
Besides Strong, two other Eagles finished in double figures as Cummings had 15 points and Ellison added 10 points. Senior Travis Carbajal (Oklahoma City, Okla.) led everyone with eight rebounds on the night and added five points.
 
Post led the turnover battled 16-11 and outscored the Golden Falcons off giveaways 22-11. Felician held a 46-32 advantage in rebounds and 12-11 in second-chance points. Anthony Obery had a team-high 23 points for Felician.
 
The Eagles are back at home on Saturday, Nov. 30 for a non-conference contest against LIU-Post. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
