Box Score

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University men's basketball team dropped a 106-101 double-overtime contest to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponent Nyack on Wednesday night. The Eagles hit late three-pointers at the end of regulation and the first overtime to force the extra periods.

Post battled back from a 13-point second-half deficit with a 24-11 midway through the period to send the game into the first overtime. With the score tied 66-66 with 6:47 remaining in the second half, junior Mike Manning (Philadelphia, Pa.) scored seven straight points to put Post in front by three, its largest lead of the game.

Nyack came back to take an 81-78 advantage with 0:39 remaining on two free throws by Isaiah Roberts. Senior Zach Krischer (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) answered right back with a shot from distance to tie the game with 0:30 left. An offensive foul gave Post the ball back, but it was unable to get a shot off.

The Warriors led throughout the first overtime period and were ahead 89-86 with 1:11 left when senior Devin Willis (Seattle, Wash.) hit a three-pointer to tie the game. Will Robinson scored on a layup on the ensuing possession and was fouled. He made the free throw to put Nyack ahead by three again. Out of a timeout, Willis hit another from distance with 0:06 remaining to force the second overtime.

Nyack outscored Post 14-9 in the final overtime period for the victory.

The Eagles found themselves down by as many as 12 points in the first half, but five made three-pointers over a six minute period pulled them within one at 38-37 with 3:28 remaining. Junior Derrick Strong (St. Louis, Mo.) scored eight of his career-high 27 points during the stretch.

Strong was 4-for-5 from behind the arc in the game and the Eagles as a team made 12 from distance. Willis and Krischer had 19 and 15 points, respectively. Senior Travis Carbajal (Oklahoma City, Okla.) grabbed a team-high nine rebounds and had two blocks before fouling out. Chris Hampton led all scorers with 30 points.

Post forced 25 turnovers, led by five steals by Strong, and scored 30 points off Nyack giveaways. The Eagles shot just 53.6 percent from the line (15-28).

The Eagles are back in action on Tuesday, Nov. 26 at Felician. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.
