PREVIEW: Eagles Return To Drubner On Saturday For Home Opener

WATERBURY, Conn.  – Coming off its first win of the young season the Post University men's basketball team returns home to face East Coast Conference (ECC) preseason favorite, Bridgeport, at the Drubner Center on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles are 3-7 in their last 10 home-openers, but have defeated the Purple Knights in each of the last two seasons.

Junior Mike Manning (Philadelphia, Pa.) led the Eagles with 18 points and six boards as Post won its first game of 2013-14 on Wednesday night. The Eagles had five players in double-figures. Senior Derrick Strong (St. Louis, Mo.) scored 15 points and added six rebounds. Senior Travis Carbajal (Oklahoma City, Okla.) and junior AJ Harris (Inglewood, Calif.) each chipped in 13 points.
 
After falling behind 9-3 early in the first half, the Eagles used a 14-2 run to pull ahead 17-11 with 15:11 remaining in the period. Senior Jerry Cummings (Queens, N.Y.) capped off the run with a dunk. The Clippers kept it close for most of the half, but seven straight points by Manning put the Eagles in front 36-28 at the break. Post led by double-digits for most of the second half. Concordia cut the lead to 64-58 with 4:25 remaining but could not get any closer as Manning quickly scored five points to extend the Eagles' lead.
 
Scouting the Purple Knights
Bridgeport is 1-1 on the young season with its win coming over Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opponent Felician, 113-85, in its season-opener. The Purple Knights have two of the last four ECC titles and were picked to finish first again this season. Bridgeport is led by JoJo Swift who averages 20.0 points per game and has a team-high 13 assists. They average 93.0 pointers per game and hold a +5 rebounding advantage over their opponents.

Post is 4-6 all-time against the Purple Knights, but has won each of the last two matchups between the two schools. The Eagles have split the two game played in Waterbury.

Honored For Defensive Prowess
Junior AJ Harris (Inglewood, Calif.) was named CACC Defensive Player of the Week on Nov. 11. In his Eagles debut against Southern New Hampshire on Nov. 9, Harris recorded seven steals, which was the highest single-game total since the 2006-07 season. He was the first Post player to earn a weekly award since Stephen Perry Jr. (Westhampton, N.J.) was named Player of the Week on Nov. 27, 2012.

Post is back at home on Wednesday, Nov. 20 in a CACC matchup with Nyack. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.
