Waterbury, Conn. – After jumping out to a 1-0 lead early in the first half, the Post Eagles dropped a 3-1 decision to the Caldwell Cougars in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference game at LaMoy Field.
Â
Things looked up for the Eagles in the 13
th minute as a cross from
Valerie Moore (Bloomfield, Conn.) from the right side of the net sailed over the head of goalkeeper Robin Franchi right near the goal line and
Tessa Dunster (Stamford, Conn.) beat Franchi back to the ball and stuffed it in as she slid into the net. The goal was Dunster's seventh of the season, which leads the team.
Â
The Eagles (4-6, 2-4 CACC) took the lead into halftime, especially with the help of
Eryka Baez (Clifton N.J.), who played goalkeeper for the first time this season. Baez had four saves in the first half.
Grace McConnell, (Leeds, England) who is normally the goalkeeper, played the field.
Â
The second half was a different story, as the Cougars put the pressure on early. They finally got through in the 52
nd minute as Julie Crankshaw took a pass from Natalie Migoya, dribbled past the defender, squared herself up and took a shot that went between the legs of Baez. It was the fourth goal of the season for Crankshaw, who leads the Cougars (6-3-2, 5-0-2 CACC).
Â
Crankshaw would strike again 16 minutes later, taking a corner from Ashlee Paknis and used a header to put it past Baez, giving the Cougars a 2-1 lead.
Â
The Cougars would put the game away in the 73
rd minute as Rebecca Stinger took a free kick from 25 yards out on the right side and curved it over the head of Baez to make it 3-1. It was Stinger's second goal of the season.
Â
Caldwell outshot Post 17-8 in the game. Baez finished with five saves for the Eagles as Franchi picked up three saves for the Cougars.
Â
The next game for the Eagles will be at LaMoy Field on October 13 when they host Philadelphia University at noon.
