Eagles Survive Fourth Quarter Rally For 37-33 Victory

Anthony Chacho Seals Victory With 100-Yard Interception Return

MANSFIELD, Pa.
– After leading the game 35-7 after three quarters, the Post University sprint football team survived 19 straight Mansfield points to hold on to a 37-33 victory on Saturday afternoon. Freshman Greg Volpe (North Haven, Conn.) finished with 266 yards on 20-28 passing and three touchdowns.
 
Ben Pepper threw his third touchdown pass of the game with 10 seconds left to put Mansfield within two points at 35-33. The Mountaineers went for a two-point conversion to tie the game, but freshman Anthony Chacho (Oakville, Conn.) intercepted the attempt and returned it 100-yards to give the Eagles two points and the 37-33 win.
 
After falling behind 7-0, Post scored 35 unanswered points. Freshman James Harrington (Danbury, Conn.) scored one of his two touchdowns on the Eagles' second possession as he took it in from 28-yards out for the score.
 
Volpe found freshman David Coggins (Waterbury, Conn.) for a 33-yard score later in the first quarter as Post took a 13-7 lead. Senior Rashaun Reid (Derby, Conn.) caught a 10-yard touchdown right before the half to give the Eagles a 21-7 lead heading into the break.
 
Harrington broke a 40-yard rush early in the second half to extend the advantage. He finished with 170 yards on the ground. Volpe threw a 39-yard pass to senior Daniel Awwad (Waterbury, Conn.) to put Post ahead 35-7 with 4:06 remaining in the third quarter.
 
Three fourth quarter touchdown passes by Pepper, including a 51-yard score on a tipped pass, brought the Mountaineers within two points before the Eagles interception.
 
Senior Mike Chance (Alpharetta, Ga.) had a team-high 10 receptions for 93 yards. The 10 receptions are the second-most in a single game in school history. Awwad finished with two catches for 74 yards.
 
Freshman Chris Leggio (Brewster, N.Y.) led the team with eight tackles and broke up two passes. Junior Jashua Guadalupe (New Britain, Conn.) had the lone sack for Post.
 
The Eagles had 471 yards of total offense including 205 yards on the ground. Post held Mansfield to just 69 yards rushing. Pepper finished with 286 yards passing.
 
Post is back at LaMoy Field on Saturday, October 12 against Navy for Armed Forces Appreciation Day. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
