ASHBURNHAM, Mass. – Senior
Rashaun Reid (Derby, Conn.) had 68 yards on the day to become the second player in team history with 1,000 career receiving yards, but the Post University sprint football team dropped its season-finale 42-14 at Franklin Pierce on Saturday afternoon in the Second Annual Talon Cup game. The Eagles finished the season with a record of 4-3.
Reid had six receptions and one touchdown to finish with 1,005 yards for his career. Sophomore
James Harrington (Danbury, Conn.) ran for 132 yards on 22 carries. Sophomore
Greg Volpe (North Haven, Conn.) threw for 328 yards, two touchdowns, and a season-high three interceptions. The Eagles outgained Ravens 477-318, but lost the turnover battle 6-1.
Post got on the board first near the end of first quarter. Reid caught a pass from Volpe, broke a few tackles, and found the end zone from 17 yards out. The Ravens answered right back with a 12-yard touchdown pass by Ryan O'Kelly that made the score 7-6 after one.
Franklin Pierce pulled ahead 20-7 with 10:29 left in the half with touchdowns on its next two drives. O'Kelly threw passes of 10 and 29 yards to build the advantage and finished with five scores on the day.
The Eagles cut the deficit to 20-14 with 10:04 remaining in the half. Volpe found sophomore
Jay'Len Mahan (Waterbury, Conn.) for a 46-yard touchdown pass. Mahan led Post with 107 receiving yards on the day on five catches. The Ravens added another score and went into the break ahead 28-14.
All three Post possessions in the third quarter ended with turnovers. Franklin Pierce's Derek Reddy recovered a fumble and intercepted Volpe twice in the period.
The Eagles' defense came up with a big fourth down stop at their own 1-yard line to big the final quarter, but could not capitalize on the opportunity. The Ravens scored twice more in the period, both setup by Eagles' turnovers.
Senior
Matt Murphy (Waterbury, Conn.) led Post with 11 tackles on the day, including four solo stops. Sophomore
Anthony Jamele (Terryville, Conn.) added 10 tackles.
Harrington finished the season with 844 yards on the ground and nine touchdowns. Vople threw for 1,248 yards, 12 touchdowns and four interceptions. Mahan was the leading receiver with 20 catches for 433 yards and four scores. Jamele led the defense with 41.5 tackles and 9.5 sacks. Senior
Mike Chance (Alpharetta, Ga.) had two fumble recoveries on the year.
The four wins by Post this season were the second-most in the four-year history of the program.
