Box Score Waterbury, Conn. – Tessa Dunster (Stamford, Conn.) did it again. This time in overtime as her penalty kick in the 98
th minute gave Post a 4-3 victory over Molloy in an out of conference matchup.
The win gives the Eagles a .500 record for the season at 4-4. They are also 2-2 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference. The four wins also equal the total win amount for last season's team.
In the 98
th minute, during an attack by the Eagles, Dunster was fouled and hit the deck inside the penalty box, setting up the drama. Her shot went low and to the left, and into the net, past goalkeeper Nicole DellaPorta for her sixth goal of the season.
The Eagles looked to have in the bag early in the first half. After Molloy jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 11
th minute after a Sami Saad score, Dunster returned the favor in the 12
th, dribbling through four defenders on the right side and sticking a shot past DellaPorta.
The scoring would continue shortly after
Lexxi Carroll (Plainville, Conn.) took a deep pass from
Brianne Scott (Williamstown, N.J.) and easily put it in the net in the 15
th minute.
Freshman
Valerie Moore (Bloomfield, Conn.) then followed suit and took another deep pass from Scott, shook two defenders and put one home for the Eagles, giving them a 3-1 lead going into the half.
Molloy went on the attack in the second half, putting pressure on the Post defense. After many missed opportunities, the Lions finally capitalized in the 67
th minute as Saad took a shot from about 10 yards out over the head of
Grace McConnell (Leeds, England) to make it a 3-2 game.
The Lions continued the pressure, and scored again in the 79
th minute as Casey Naab's shot off of a rebound tied the game at three.
The Eagles had a chance to win it in the waning seconds as Moore's header off of a Dunster corner kick fell just to the left.
