Eagles Win Dual Match Opener For First Time In Program History

WATERBURY, Conn.
– For the first time in program history, the Post University men's tennis team won its dual match opener. On Sunday, the Eagles cruised past Regis 9-0 in a non-conference match at Chase Collegiate School. Five players – freshmen Nicholas Tadros (Montreal, Quebec) and Jonathyn Young (Norwalk, Conn.), sophomores Peter Fanous (Cairo, Egypt) and Christ-Brian Amedjonekou (Queens, N.Y.), and senior Mateus Garcia (Sao Lourenco, Brazil) – each won two matches on the day.
 
Post (1-0) jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the doubles matches. Tadros and Young teamed up at first doubles for an 8-2 victory over Michael Beluch and Hunter Cawley of Regis (0-2). Fanous and Amedjonekou and junior Ethan Siemiesz (New Boston, N.H.) and Garcia each earned triumphs at second and third doubles, respectively. The score of each of the second and third doubles matches was 8-3.
 
The Eagles coasted through six singles matches, all straight set victories for the host school. Tadros bested Beluch 6-4, 6-1 at first singles in his dual match debut for Post. Fanous notched a 6-1, 6-2 win over Cawley at no. 2 singles, while Amedjonekou prevailed over Regis' Andy White at third singles. Amedjonekou turned in a 6-2, 6-2 win.
 
At fourth singles, Young held his opponent, Sophorn Nop at love in the second set. Young surrendered the fewest games on the day in his 6-2, 6-0 win at fourth singles. Junior Danny Bonamassa (Staten Island, N.Y.) also shutout Mouhamed Diallo in the second set, with a 6-4, 6-0 victory.
 
Post will wrap up the fall season on Oct. 6-7 in a tournament at Stonehill.
