The Post University sprint football team will take its longest road trip of the season, a 296 mile journey, as it takes on defending Collegiate Sprint Football League (CSFL) champion Navy Friday night at 7:30 p.m. The Midshipmen enter the contest 2-0 overall, and 1-0 in CSFL play, while the Eagles are in search of their first win under head coach Michael Mannetti, who is in his inaugural campaign with Post.

A Win Friday Would…
  • Be the first all-time against Navy and would be the fourth in program history.

  • Improve Post's all-time record in September to 2-3, and 1-1 this season.
  • Be the first road win for Post since Sept. 23, 2011 with a 25-20 triumph over Cornell.
GAME NOTES:

MAHAN MADNESS:

Freshman Jay'Len Mahan provided a strong spark to the Post offense in his collegiate debut as he made four catches for 74 yards and two scores in the eighth annual Adirondack Trust Allegiance Bowl last week. He scored on a 19-yard pass on the Eagles' opening drive to give Post a 7-0 lead in the first quarter.
 
POST-NAVY SERIES:
For the second straight season Post and Navy will meet in the second game of the year for the Eagles. Last season, Navy blanked Post 37-0 in Annapolis. The Midshipmen held a 447-79 advantage in total yards. Mike Chance tallied 105 all-purpose yards for the Eagles. Kyle Lagasse made 11 tackles for Post.

SCOUTING NAVY:
Navy, the defending CSFL champion, enters Friday night's contest with a record of 2-0 overall and 1-0 in CSFL games. The Midshipmen defeated Coppin State in the 2012 opener 38-27, before it earned a conference win at Princeton 62-13. The Navy offense is ranked fourth in the CSFL with an average of 267 yards per game, and is spearheaded by running back David Williams who is averaging nine yards per carry. Defensively, Ronald Allen is tied for the league lead in interceptions with two.
 
LONGEST TREK OF 2012:
The Eagles will make their longest road trip of the 2012 season when it travels to Annapolis, Md., this week. The distance between the Post University and the United States Naval Academy is 296 miles.
 
ALL-LEAGUE PERFORMERS RETURN:
Of the nine Post players selected to the All-CSFL teams last season, eight of them are back on the Eagles' roster this season. Post returns First Team All-CSFL tight end Rashaun Reid, second team choices Dwayne Carter (QB), Daniel Awwad (WR), Kyle Lagasse (LB), Christopher Lopez (LB), Matt Santos (DL), Charles May (DL), and honorable mention choice Rashawn Hendricks (RB).
 
COMING TO A TV NEAR YOU:
The Post sprint football program filmed a 30-minute TV program in conjunction with CPTV Sports that will air throughout the fall. The show features in-depth interviews with head coach Michael Mannetti and Athletic Director Anthony Fallacaro. Visit cptvsports.org for a complete programming list.
 
DIVERSE GEOGRAPHIC MAKEUP:
Of the 54 student-athletes on the Post University roster, 11 different states are represented, including 30 from Connecticut, six from California, five from New York, three from Georgia, two apiece from Florida and Texas, and one each from Alaska, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Puerto Rico and Virginia. There is also one international player from Ireland.
 
TRAVELING BAND:
After its Allegiance Bowl matchup with Army, Post will play the final six games of the season on the road. The Eagles are 2-6 all-time on the road. Post earned wins at Princeton in 2010 and at Cornell to open the 2011 season. The 33-18 win over the Tigers marked the first in program history, while the 25-20 triumph came to open 2011 against the Big Red.
 
GIVING BACK TO GREATER WATERBURY AREA:
Since he was hired in January, head coach Michael Mannetti has made community outreach a priority for his program. Post University hosted the BAGS Foundation All-Star Camp at LaMoy Field. The camp helped Waterbury high school students with the skills and fundamentals of football.
 
In May, members of the team and coaching staff participated in the Great Strides Walk To Cure Cystic Fibrosis at Ballantine Park in Southbury, Conn. The Eagles walked in honor of Team Ryan's Faith. Ryan Trochsler is a ninth grade student at Waterbury Arts Magnet School.
 
ON THE HORIZON:
The Eagles will travel to Princeton on Oct. 5, at 7 p.m., for a CSFL contest. Post is 2-0 all-time against the Tigers.
