ORANGEBURG, N.Y. – The Eagles volleyball team fell to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) North Division leader Dominican on Tuesday night 3-1. The scores were 16-25, 25-19, 15-25, 19-25. Post moves to 3-9 overall and 2-2 in CACC play.
Senior
Kelly Hayes (South Orange, N.J.) and junior
Emily Wilman (Perth Amboy, N.J.) had 11 and 10 kills, respectively. Sophomore
Julia Slyaktina (Moscow, Russia) recorded 22 assists and two service aces. Senior
Brieonna Skipper (Rahway, N.J.) added two service aces.
The Eagles recorded a season-high 61 digs in the match. Leading the way were Wilman with 14 and graduate student
Vanessa Ramos (Milford, Conn.) with 13.
The Chargers led from start to finish in the first set as they opened on an 8-3 run. Skipper aced a service to bring the Eagles within three at 17-14. Out of a timeout, Dominican staged a 7-2 run to put the set out of reach.
Post jumped out on an 8-3 run to start the second set. All but two points during the stretch came off errors by the Chargers. Dominican tied the score at 9-9, but the Eagles responded with a 5-0 run to force a timeout. Two kills by senior
Monique Chance (Brooklyn, N.Y.) down the stretch gave the Eagles the set.
After falling behind 6-1, the Eagles scored four straight to pull within one at 6-5. Post would not get closer for the rest of the set. Slyaktina had two consecutive services aces during a 5-0 run midway through to make the score 17-13.
Dominican forced a timeout by the Eagles after a 9-3 run to begin the final set. Post responded by pulling as close a four at 14-10, helped by kills from Hayes and Wilman. Chance scored a kill late to cut the deficit to 20-18, but a 5-1 run ended the match.
Post will be back in action on Friday night at the Drubner Center against Bloomfield. The match begins at 7 p.m.
