SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - The Post University sprint football team will begin its third season of varsity competition on Saturday, Sept. 22, when the Eagles take on the Army Black Knights in the 2012 Allegiance Bowl. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. The contest will mark the first bowl appearance in program history.
First & 10:
· Today's game marks the first time Post will appear in the Allegiance Bowl.
· Head Coach
Michael Mannetti will make his debut as the leader of Post.
· Five other members of the Post coaching staff will coach in their first game at Post: Steve Croce, Joe Begnal,
Pete Flammia, William Miller and
Dan Petrosky.
· The Allegiance Bowl will be the only contest that is not away during the 2012 season.
· The Eagles begin their third season of competition at the Allegiance Bowl.
· The squad won its 2011 season-opener, a 25-20 decision at Cornell on Sept. 23, 2011.
· Post is 0-1 all-time against Army, with the lone meeting at West Point on Oct. 21, 2011.
· Twenty-six freshmen will suit up in their first game for the Eagles on Saturday afternoon.
EAGLES SOAR INTO ALLEGAINCE BOWL DEBUT:
The 2012 season marks the third season of competition for the Post University sprint football team. The Eagles played a probationary campaign in 2010, followed by a full six-game slate last year.
MANNETTI MAKES HEAD COACHING DEBUT:
With coaching experience that spans three decades,
Michael Mannetti will appear in his first contest as a college football head coach on Saturday. Mannetti was extremely successful at the scholastic level, and most recently won a Class S State Championship at Holy Cross High School in Connecticut in 2011. He was the defensive coordinator for that squad.
POST IN SEASON-OPENERS:
As it begins its third season of varsity competition, Post is 1-1 in season-openers. Last year, the Eagles defeated Cornell 25-20 in Ithaca, N.Y. Post erased a 13-6 halftime deficit with 19 fourth quarter points to earn the win. In 2010, Post dropped a 42-14 decision at Pennsylvania to open the 2010 season. The matchup at the Quakers marked the first game in program history.
POST-ARMY SERIES:
Saturday's Allegiance Bowl contest will be the second meeting between the two teams all-time. The first meeting came last season at West Point where 100 total points were scored in the game. Post is 0-1 in the all-time series.

ARMY 57, POST 43
Post dropped the first meeting between it and Army last season at West Point. The final score was 57-43. The Eagles held a 42-37 lead with 4:08 remaining in the game; however, the Black Knights scored two touchdowns in the final 2:13 to steal the win.
ALL-LEAGUE PERFORMERS RETURN:
Of the nine Post players selected to the All-CSFL teams last season, eight of them are back on the Eagles' roster this season. Post returns First Team All-CSFL tight end

DIVERSE GEOGRAPHIC MAKEUP:
Of the 56 student-athletes on the Post University roster, 11 different states are represented, including 31 from Connecticut, seven from California, five from New York, three from Georgia, two apiece from Florida and Texas, and one each from Massachusetts, New Jersey, Puerto Rico and Virginia. There is also one international player from Ireland.
TRAVELING BAND:
After its Allegiance Bowl matchup with Army, Post will play the final six games of the season on the road. The Eagles are 2-6 all-time on the road. Post earned wins at Princeton in 2010 and at Cornell to open the 2011 season. The 33-18 win over the Tigers marked the first in program history, while the 25-20 triumph came to open 2011 against the Big Red.
GIVING BACK TO GREATER WATERBURY AREA:
Since he was hired in January, head coach
Michael Mannetti has made community outreach a priority for his program. Post University hosted the BAGS Foundation All-Star Camp at LaMoy Field. The camp helped Waterbury high school students with the skills and fundamentals of football.
In May, members of the team and coaching staff participated in the Great Strides Walk To Cure Cystic Fibrosis at Ballantine Park in Southbury, Conn. The Eagles walked in honor of Team Ryan's Faith. Ryan Trochsler is a ninth grade student at Waterbury Arts Magnet School.
ON THE HORIZON:
Post will take to the road as it travels to defending CSFL champion Navy on Friday, Sept. 28. The opening kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
