Bridgeport Tops Post 5-4 In 11 Innings

Eagles Rally To Force Extras, But Fall In Rivalry Game

Box Score

WATERBURY, Conn. – The Post University baseball team scored two runs with two outs in the bottom of the ninth to force extra innings, but fell to visiting Bridgeport 5-4 in 11 innings in a non-conference game on Thursday afternoon at Municipal Stadium. Juniors Alexandre Beland (Trios-Rivere, Quebec) and Bobby Rodriguez (Carmel, N.Y.) scored the tying runs in the bottom of the ninth.

Rodriguez drew a two out walk in the bottom of the ninth. Beland singled to right field and fielding errors on the right fielder, Kyle Ferri, and first baseman Eric Schlitter allowed both runs to score.

In the top of the 11th, Zach Theulen drove an RBI single to center field that plated Matt Ranaudo to give Bridgeport (8-12) a 5-4 lead.

The Eagles put the winning run on first in the bottom of the 11th after a Rodriguez walk advanced senior James Wong (Brooklyn, N.Y.) to second. However, Beland flew out to left field to end the game.

After the Purple Knights jumped out to a 4-0 lead, Post (10-20) got on the board in the seventh. Senior Russell Sirko (Danbury, Conn.) led the frame off with a triple. He scored on a RBI ground out by sophomore Jeff St. Pierre (Milford, Conn.).

The Eagles cut the deficit to two runs, 4-2, in the eighth when Beland scored from third on a passed ball.

Sophomore Sean Sylvester (Berlin, Conn.) suffered his second loss of the season, and was one of six pitchers used by Post. He pitched the final three innings of the game, and saw his scoreless streak come to an end. He pitched 12 scoreless innings out of the Post bullpen, a stretch which dated to March 21 at New Haven.

Post continues a six-game homestand on Saturday, April 14, when the Eagles host Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) foe The University of the Sciences. First pitch of the twinbill is slated for noon at Municipal Stadium. Admission to all Post baseball games is FREE and open to the public.
