MIDDLEBURY, Conn. – Three Post University men's tennis players – sophomore
Danny Bonamassa (Staten Island, N.Y.), junior
Mateus Garcia (Sao Lourenco, Brazil) and freshman
Dreshawn Lewis (Norwalk, Conn.) – earned their second straight singles win to lead the Eagles past Caldwell in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) match on Sunday at Edgewood Bath & Tennis.
Bonamassa cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 win over Caldwell's Chris Skarbelis at fifth singles, while Lewis defeated Al Navas 6-2, 6-4 at second singles. Garcia bested Cole Downs in the fourth singles spot, 6-1, 7-6 (2).
Freshman
Christ-Brian Amedjonekou (Queens, N.Y.) and senior
Markeese MCleod (Waterbury, Conn.) rounded out the singles victories for Post (3-7, 2-3 CACC). At the top spot in the lineup, Amedjonekou notched a 7-5, 6-3 win over Christopher Long. MCleod had the most lop-sided victory of the day, a 6-1, 6-1 triumph over Steve Petrosino at sixth singles. A Waterbury native, MCleod was the first singles match completed on the afternoon.
The Eagles won all three doubles matches to get the match started. Amedjonekou and Garcia posted an 8-4 victory over Long and Navas of Caldwell (1-5, 0-3 CACC). Lewis and junior
Mark Risbridger (Southampton, England) downed George Mikula and Downs, 8-3, and senior
Michael MacDonald (Stamford, Conn.) and sophomore
Ethan Siemiesz (New Boston, N.H.) netted an 8-5 win at third doubles. MacDonald and Siemiesz bested Michael Mongelli and Skarbelis.
With the win, Post has won consecutive matches in each of the last two seasons and equaled its conference win total from a season ago.
The Eagles will continue a five-match homestand at Edgewood Bath & Tennis on Tuesday, April 3, when they host Bloomfield in a conference match. First serves are scheduled for 3 p.m.
