Eagles Drop Season-Opener To #48 Firebirds, 9-0

Fanous Fights At No. 1 Singles, Falls 6-4, 6-3

DANBURY, Conn. – The Post University men's tennis team lost its spring opener to the #48 University of District Columbia Firebirds on Friday afternoon, 9-0. Among the highlights for the Eagles were freshmen Peter Fanous (Cairo, Egypt) and Christ-Brian Amedjonkeou (Queens, N.Y.) at first and second singles, respectively.
 
Fanous battled Aleksandar Grabovac before he fell 6-4, 6-3 at the top spot in the lineup, while Amedjonkeou played a tough first set against Tomas Gajdusek at second singles. Amedjonkeou fell 7-5, 6-0.
 
Freshman Dreshawn Lewis (Norwalk, Conn.), junior Mateus Garcia (Sao Lourenco, Brazil), sophomore Danny Bonamassa (Staten Island, N.Y.) and senior Markeese MCleod (Waterbury, Conn.) rounded out the singles lineup for Post (0-2).
 
In doubles, Fanous and Lewis fell to Grabovac and Simon Andersson at the top spot, 8-3.
 
The match was played at Danbury Sport & Wellness.
 
The Eagles return to the courts on Thursday, March 15, when it travels to Pace for a dual match. First serves are scheduled for 3 p.m.
